PRESCHOOL · 3–5 YEARS

Growing resilience.
Loving learning.

Preschool gives children space to deepen friendships, follow ideas and build independence. Achievable challenges and thoughtful support help them enjoy learning and feel ready for what comes next.

A little challenge. Another try.

We encourage children to plan, test and revisit ideas through purposeful play. Adults help children describe a difficulty, consider another approach and recognise their own effort. A challenge should stretch a child while remaining achievable, with support adapted to their needs.

Stories, songs, early sounds and meaningful mark-making build a love of language. Counting, comparing, shape and pattern become useful tools in play. Children also practise listening, sharing ideas and caring for their environment.

Ideas grow when we share them.

Everyday skills, every day.

Putting on a coat, managing belongings, washing hands, asking for help and helping tidy are meaningful opportunities for independence. Children practise making choices and explaining what they need. Adults offer encouragement and adapt tasks so every child can participate.

  • Staying with a self-chosen task and returning to it after a setback.
  • Explaining an idea and listening to another person’s view.
  • Using words, marks, quantities and patterns in meaningful play.
  • Taking increasing responsibility for familiar routines.

Getting ready for school, together.

Preparation for school includes feeling secure, being curious, communicating needs, making relationships and managing everyday routines. It is broader than learning letters or numbers. We share progress with you, welcome your questions and discuss the support your child may need for the transition.

Familiar stories, role play and conversations help children explore the idea of school. With appropriate permissions and information sharing, we work with families and receiving schools to support continuity, including individual support arrangements.
