TEENIES · 15–24 MONTHS
Little choices.
Growing independence.
Teenies are finding new ways to communicate, explore and take part. Familiar routines and responsive adults give them the confidence to try a little more for themselves.
Come and meet us
Every gesture has something to say.
A pointed finger, a look, a sound or a first word can start a conversation. Practitioners follow children’s interests, name what they notice and leave time for a response. We pair simple language with gestures, pictures and familiar objects, welcoming home languages and the words your family uses.
Songs, rhymes, favourite books and repeated games help children recognise what comes next. Hearing and practising useful words in meaningful situations builds understanding without pressure to perform.
“Let me try.”
Small choices build a sense of agency: choosing a book, carrying a cup with support or helping put a toy away. Adults break everyday tasks into manageable steps and offer just enough help. We celebrate effort and stay nearby when a task feels frustrating.
Familiar home routines matter here. Tell us how your child likes to settle, eat, wash their hands or say goodbye. Consistent cues and comforting objects can make a new nursery routine feel more understandable.
Communication in everyday play.
Little changes worth noticing.
- Using gestures, sounds or words to make a choice or request help.
- Anticipating a familiar song, story or daily routine.
- Exploring objects in different ways and returning to favourite activities.
- Taking part in simple self-care and beginning to notice other children.
These are examples, not a checklist every child must complete. Your key person brings together what you see at home and what we see in nursery to decide how to respond next.
Familiar care, with room to explore.
Active play, sensory experiences, stories and outdoor discoveries sit alongside meals, nappy changes and rest. We respond to each child’s need for movement, closeness or quiet and support safe opportunities to practise everyday skills.
Food and mealtimesGetting to know Toddlers.
The move to Toddlers is gradual and discussed with you. Visits help your child get to know the space, adults and routines, while key people share familiar comforts, interests and next steps. Readiness and wellbeing shape the transition.
